Rob’s Music Review – November 2011

  • No Far Away – Chris August

Chris August’s sophomore album “No Far Away” is definitely not your necessarily feel good, pop Christian album. Yes, songs like Starry Night, Loving You Is Easy, and It’s Always Been You are exactly that – catchy, feel good pop tunes – but the album has another more pensive side to the coin, one of self-revelation and vulnerability. The story behind the song 7X70 is a powerful story of forgiveness, doing the right thing despite it being hard, and acceptance. In the same vein, the song Want To Be Real is August sharing about his weaknesses and his trials. Winter Time, towards the end of the album, once again reaches a more meditative note with realism. An album this open and honest deserves a real good listen, especially on those days that you’re not feeling so hot yourself. If you like mainstream artists like Michael Buble, Train, and Maroon 5 than you will certainly enjoy Chris August.
