Scuba’s Message – May/June 2011

  • Hello everyone..sorry for the delay in getting this newsletter out.  I had some internet issues.  Lynn’s message for May  was too good not to run, thus the May message in June. Mark Yandt and Karl Moore have put together an amazing fundraiser for Camp Connections.  Here is an email that Mark sent out, (the email attachment is available if you contact Mark and have him email it to you.)

Howdy Folks! (Hello to everyone in Montreal and Toronto and to those here in Ottawa!)

Are you ready for a challenge!?  This is your chance!  Get out your bicycle and come and join us for a two day trip of a lifetime.  On July 2nd and 3rd join the team and ride with us from Parliament Hill in Ottawa to Camp Connections home office in Montreal.  This two day, 170km ride in support of Camp Connections will take us through beautiful Eastern Ontario and give us a chance to test our physical and mental endurance.  And the best part is we get to tackle the road together!

Take the opportunity to get some exercise and share a great weekend outdoors!  Train ahead of time if you can but this is NOT a race.  Adults of all ages are welcome, young and not as young, and we will be helping each other all the way!  My mom (Tina Yandt) recently told me when I was reminding her how far 100kms was, “I may not be the fastest rider out there…but I’ll make it…you don’t have to worry about that!  What can I say to that? She would have cycled across Canada two years ago had I let her.

If you are interested in participating more details are attached to this email (20110607_Peddling_kms_2011.pdf) and it is as easy as an email to get involved!  Send me and/or Karl Moore an email (Mark Yandt: markyandt@gmail.com, Karl Moore: karl.moore@mcgill.ca) or reply to this email to let us know you are interested.  Don’t wait!  The team is growing fast and some have already started cycling on a regular basis to get prepared!  We will be booking a block of hotel rooms in Alexandria where all the riders will stay together Saturday evening so we need to know as soon as possible who would like to participate.  Once you have confirmed that you are coming tell all your friends about the amazing adventure that you are about to embark on and the great cause that you are riding for and they will be happy to buy your kilometers!  You may even canvas door to door and keep track of the pledges you have earned on the attached Peddling Kilometers Pledge Form.  Raise $100, $200, $500 (the sky is the limit) and every penny will help Friends of Camp Connections support Campers and the Camp program at Camp Connections.

I can’t wait to see you all on the road!  Please forward this message to anyone I have not included who might be interested in participating.  Recruit a friend to come along, the more the better.

    See everyone soon,

    Mark

About The Author

"Scuba" Steve Symonds is an important member of our camp team. Involved in work at camps since the early 1970s, Stephen brings an important message of recovery and hope in Jesus Christ. As a young man going through a very difficult period of his life, God reminded Stephen of some simple messages he had heard at camp: the beautiful truths of John 3:16, and its lyrical counterpart, "Jesus Loves Me." As a result, Stephen is deeply aware of the potential impact of a week at camp: even if that impact comes many years later. Stephen has a great love of learning, a special interest in astronomy, and an impressive ability in waterskiing. He is also one of our resident photographers and "techies"!
