Scuba’s Message – April 2011

  • It has been a long time since I have lost a dear and close friend in my life. Last month that changed. My dear friend John Ferlatte died three weeks ago. His illness and death were unexpected and sudden.

I rarely shed tears, however, I have openly wept in sorrow over the loss of this amazing man. John was not only an amazing friend, he was a loving husband, father, minister and mentor.

John set a great example of what it is to be a Christian. To the best of his ability he was the ‘Fruits of the Spirit’ and a Servant to everyone in his life.

John and wonderful wife Bev have served Camp Connections since it’s inception. They have allowed their property to be used by our camp for swimming and water-skiing.

I don’t think I have ever met another man that’s as hospitable and welcoming as John was. I will miss his welcoming smile, his warm and friendly hello/good-bye hugs, his fun French accent and his brutally strong home brewed coffee.

Bev, Liz, and Jon…I am so sorry for your loss.

Christ has a plan that involves all of us. John Ferlatte is finished his good walk in this physical relm. John I love you and will miss you, till we meet again on the other side.

About The Author

"Scuba" Steve Symonds is an important member of our camp team. Involved in work at camps since the early 1970s, Stephen brings an important message of recovery and hope in Jesus Christ. As a young man going through a very difficult period of his life, God reminded Stephen of some simple messages he had heard at camp: the beautiful truths of John 3:16, and its lyrical counterpart, "Jesus Loves Me." As a result, Stephen is deeply aware of the potential impact of a week at camp: even if that impact comes many years later. Stephen has a great love of learning, a special interest in astronomy, and an impressive ability in waterskiing. He is also one of our resident photographers and "techies"!
