Rob’s Music Review – March 2011

  • The Afters – Light Up The Sky (CD)

I had first heard of the Afters few years ago on a Christian radio station by their song “Beautiful Love.”
Albeit they are not Christian worship artists, their songs still are apparently God oriented, with the occasional love song as well – my personal favourite brand of Christian music. This album totally surprised me and is a delight to listen to again and again. I had heard their single, “Runaway” at a friend’s house and immediately asked, “Who IS this?” That song, in my opinion, has one of the greatest hooks for a chorus I have heard in many years (however, that is purely my own opinion).  Their opening song and title track “Light Up The Sky” is a great entry level song to their style and genre. “Lift Me Up” is more of crying out song to God, and “Life Is Sweeter” once again exemplifies their hook writing abilities.

If you like bands like Switchfoot, Leeland, One Republic and The Fray, then you will absolutely love The Afters.
